“In
a democracy, no one person should wield so much power for so long. Article III
of the Constitution provides that federal judges “shall hold their offices
during good behavior.” In practice this language means they serve for life
absent voluntary retirement or impeachment. Were we to draft the Constitution
today, we would be wise to reconsider this provision.” This quote was by Jamal Greene is a professor
of law at Columbia Law School and a former clerk for Justice John Paul Stevens.
This
quote basically restates the law regarding federal judges in the US
Constitution. In fact informing the
reader that our federal judges can stay in congress for life. Also how if we were to draft the constitution
today we will be wise to have the law changed concerning federal judges in
congress.
I
chose this quote because it coincides with all of our readings and writing thus
far. Like readings such as the power of our government, our government stance
on citizenship, and the US Constitution.
I agree with this professor because we need changes in congress. In fact nobody wants to be governed by a
government that is always at war when it comes to policies and funds for the
American people. We have to start
somewhere and changing the laws regarding federal judges terms may just be the
way to start. Giving the American people
the hope of a brighter future for our kids and a more peaceful and balanced
government!
