JFK

“Three of these Constitutional amendments deal with the crucial issue of the right to vote in a democracy which was also the focus of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. However, electoral laws are mainly decided by the state, and there has recently been a determined effort by many Republican governors of states like Florida to "purge" registered voters from the voting lists and thus take away their right to vote under the pretext of preventing "voter fraud." It might seem strange that a party that claims to be working in the interest of the majority of people would put so much effort into reducing the number of eligible voters, and many liberals have argued this is an attempt to undermine the Voting Rights Act.”

This passage explains the role of the Electoral College in the government. Also how the electoral laws are mainly established by each state.  The electoral party is supposed to be working for the majority of the people who have the right to vote. However the Republican Governors of states like Florida are trying to take away the rights of the voters by implementing a system that they consider to be preventing voter’s fraud. This is the reason why many liberals argue that this is a strategy to try and undermine our 1965 Voting Rights Act.

The reason why I chosen this passage is because I felt like this passage was educating the reader on the Electoral College.  Also on our right to vote and when the voting act was created.  The main point of this passage was about how the electoral party is supposed to be in favor of the majority voters but the Republican Party might just be running a voting fraud system to eliminate voters.  In conclusion I think this was a great passage to read about the issue of voters.

Citizenship

This paragraph is about the development of citizenship.  The growth of citizenship through civil rights, political rights, but not social rights.  Civil rights were the legal power that was reduced by prejudice and lack of opportunity to earn money.  Political rights were the potential power and who so ever utilized it demanded experienced personnel within and organization with the changing of ideology being the correct function of the government.   Social rights were not considered part of citizenship at that time due to its lack of influence.  The purpose of citizenship was to reduce the ignorance of poverty without disturbing the regularity of inequality still knowing that being poor is the unpleasant consequence of action.

I chose this paragraph because I thought it was interesting how the writer was explaining the growth of citizenship at the time.  Also I was able to understand the growth of citizenship at that time because of how it was broken down into the 3 rights.  In conclusion still understanding that poverty was the consequence for the inequality more than likely due to racism.
